The valve to beat all valves
TransAir PFT ValveThe ergonomic and efficient TransAir valve assembly is the very model of design excellence. Pneumatic operation ensures faultless performance over years of testing. The entire assembly can be disassembled in less than a minute for cold sterilization. However, in recent epidemiological studies using viral filters, it was proven that these valves required no attention at all even after thousands of operations.

 

Results in half the time
A complete series of pulmonary function tests including Flow Volume Loops, Slow Vital Capacity, Lung Volumes and Single Breath Diffusion can be completed in 15 to 18 minutes. The Total Lung Capacity is measured at the same time as Single Breath Diffusion thus saving all the time usually required for multibreath dilutional methods. Moisture and carbon dioxide reagents can be replenished by the user when necessary, rather than the expensive practice of being required to use proprietary pre-packaged containers.

N2 Dilution Theory
PFT ResultsNitrogen recovery is a gas dilution technique for measuring lung volumes. Since N2 is resident in the lung at all times, it has an infinite time to reach whatever communicating airways it can. During the performance of DLCO, the subject exhales to residual volume (all the way empty) and then breathes-in diffusion gas until completely full (TLC). The new N2 from the DLCO mixture rapidly mixes with the N2 that was in the residual volume and thus TLC can be directly measured. The technique assumes the partial pressure of CO2 in the alveoli at the start of the test. Using Dalton’s Law of partial pressures, the CO2 can be corrected by the software, or alternatively, a separate measure of PACO2 (alveolar CO2) can improve accuracy on patients with COPD.

SpiroAir and ComPAS Freedom™

The ComPAS Freedom™ Task Manager was created around the needs and requirements of one of America’s most prestigious teaching hospitals. The versatility of the design makes the Task Manager equally suitable in high volume teaching centers or smaller pulmonary practices.

When tests are completed in the pulmonary lab, results can be routed to any network-connected station for physician interpretation. In cases where multiple physicians will interpret results, the Task Manger automatically sends the appropriate patient results to each physician.

Internal “Task Notes” can be attached to patient results and sent to colleagues. Tests can be routed to pulmonary fellows for

preliminary review and then on to faculty staff for final interpretation. If reports need to be printed and sent to referring physicians, completed tests along with the interpretation can be forwarded to the department secretary for printing. In smaller centers, test results can be sent from the pulmonary lab directly to the attending physician. At his or her desk, the interpreting physician can log into the Task Manager and review a variety of customizable report formats and engage a personal template of interpretation text. The computer impression is available for referral as the interpretation is being considered.

Calibration

TransAir2 calibration is so easy! Using a 3-liter calibration syringe and the DLCO test gas, the instrument can be calibrated in less than 2 minutes. Testing Confidence

Is testing time when using the TransAir2 reduced?

Yes! Since TLC is measured during the DLCO test, there is no need to make a separate measurement of FRC by helium dilution or nitrogen washout. Typical complete testing time including pre and post bronchodilator is 25 minutes.

Is the TransAir with ComPAS Freedom™ software easy to learn?

Yes! Complete novices in pulmonary function can be testing patients after a couple of hour’s instruction. The software includes a magnificent Help library which can be accessed at any time during testing and includes pictorial and detailed instructions.

Is the TransAir inexpensive to operate?

Yes! The TransAir2 only requires a single cylinder of DLCO gas for all tests. An ‘H’ cylinder of gas will allow for approximately 300 complete PFT studies. The TransAir2 does not require pre-packaged proprietary chemical filter packs or expensive chromatograph columns. No service contract is needed; a simple replacement of two cells by the user is all that is necessary approximately every 18 months. The TransAir2 will save you thousands of dollars in service and maintenance cost demanded by other manufacturers!

Is the TransAir suitable for children or subjects with small capacities?

Yes! The pneumotachograph is highly sensitive and will easily measure very small volumes and flow rates. The single breath diffusion design using high discriminating analyzers is particularly well suited to sick patients or small children.

Does the TransAir meet ATS and ERS recommendations?

Yes! Not only does this instrument meet and exceed all the new recommendations, the testing screens have been specifically designed around the guidelines and suggested protocols.

Is the TransAir easy to calibrate?

Yes! Calibration is guided by clear pictorial displays. The instrument is supplied with a high quality 3-Liter syringe and all calibrations can be included in either final or quality assurance reports.

Will the TransAir2 fit into a small office?

Yes! The TransAir2 has a very small footprint and is perfect for mobile situations or offices with limited space. The articulated arm and valve assembly can be directly mounted onto any desk surface.

Can the TransAir2 be expanded into Plethysmography?

Yes! The Body Box 5500 will operate beautifully on the same computer sharing the TransAir2. Final reports can present complete testing information from the two instruments in an elegantly concise and informative manner.

Does the SpiroAir offer bronchial challenge capability?

Yes! The standard ComPAS Freedom™ software, supplied with the TransAir2, provides the following test options: Pre and post Flow Volume Loops, Simple Spirometry, MVV’s, TLC by nitrogen recovery, DLCO, Bronchial Challenge and manual entry of ABG’s and MIP/MEP’s.

Does the TransAir2 require a service contract?

Absolutely not! The TransAir2 is by far the least expensive PFT instrument to maintain on the market. The product is designed to operate reliably for over 15 years and the miniscule maintenance required can be easily performed by the end user.
